“When you look good, you feel good”, this was the order of the year for 2015, and it was evident at the Second Annual Countdown Music Festival 2015. The BEATMagazine SA fashion team attended the event to check out what BCMMers were going into the New Year wearing, and I must say they never disappoint. As per any summer prescription, the simpler and the brighter, the better. Shorts, shades and summer dresses dominated the event, with some having added a lot of accessories to enhance their looks from bland to grand. Here is what BCMM looked like leaving 2015 to enter 2016.

Simanye Sam is a Chemical Analyst and an exercise instructor whose style rocks the fashion sense.  The King William’s Town born fashionista shared his secret with Quanita.

Quanita: What is your opinion on fashion and how would you define it?

Sam: Well, I feel like fashion is about looks that are popular in a specific time, and it gives one the inspiration, ideas and the nudge to dare.

Quanita: You have a very defined style, yet it’s so unique. How and when did you establish your personal style?

Sam: I believe I established my style when I was in tertiary. This is the time where I was finding myself and experimenting with a whole lot of things. It took me a lot of trial and error to finding my own personal clothing style and I’ve realized that developing a personal fashion style is a journey not a destination and finding mine was really about getting to know myself better.

Quanita: I meet up with you at different events, and I have noticed that your style is not rigid and even though it has your personal touch, you always look different. What inspires your style?

Sam: A whole lot of things like the persona I want to convey that particular day, my mood, what I see in the media and also what I feel will fit my physique to my satisfaction amongst other things.

Quanita: We’ve already entered Spring/Summer; this is a fashion season as many designers would agree. What do you think will be trending this Spring/Summer?

Sam: For guys, I think fitted flat front shorts, slim fit chinos, sharp dressed sunglasses and bold, vibrant and bound to get blood pumping red pieces of apparel. Then when it comes to ladies, khaki in varying styles, jumpsuits and some sultry sheer little black dresses should be a must have.

Quanita: Now we know there are always a couple of fashion “yays and nays”, what would you warn people to avoid wearing this festive season?

Sam: Wearing sunglasses in the in the wrong places and too much color should be avoided. Ladies should please stay away from “booty shorts”, exaggerated slits and dark make-up, guys should avoid baggy shorts.
