  1. Performer of the Year

performer

This award is given to an artist/group that showed outstanding dominance in performances, gigs, promotions, releases and brand popularity within the past twelve months. The artist must be fit enough to perform in big stage / in-front of massive crowds.

Requirements: The artist or groups is required to submit an entry form together with posters of events he/she participated in from the previous year as well as an artist profile and two images. NOTE: Artists must be registered with SAMRO/RISA and be in possession of their own music to be submitted. SAMRO/RISA is a pre-requisite because radio/television stations will not playlist unregistered music so that you can get royalties each time your music plays on a paying broadcaster. Please download profile template below to complete your profile because all artist and groups profiles will be added on online database to assist event organisers to know exactly on how to find you and your music. That is why it is very important that you provide correct and accurate information to us, if anything changes it is your responsibility to send us your updated version of your profile monthly, quarterly, twice a year or annually so as to keep relevant information about your art.

  1. Fashion Brand of the Year

fashionThis category is created to expose vanity labels and fashion brands to new markets and to encourage them to be presentable. This is to ensure that they grow as businesses.

Requirements: This category is opened to both designers and branders. They are required to submit an entry form as well their profile. PLEASE: Next year (2017), this category will only be opened to designers. Please submit a profile of your brand as well as images of the items that represent the brand. NOTE: We will not be held liable for any inconvience or damage caused by incorrect information submitted to us. Please be careful.

  1. Event of the Year

event of the yearThis award is open to appreciate the time and efforts of organisations in creating platform for entertainment development and promoting Eastern Cape as an events Mecca. These events have to be hosted in the past twelve months, by an Eastern Cape organisation or individuals in order to be considered for a nomination.

Requirements: Event organisers are required to submit entry forms, profiles and posters of submitted events.  Event organisers must take into consideration that all information submitted to us will be taken as the true representation of their respective event and if it is found otherwise, your application will be disqualified and you will be banned to enter for the awards for the following year. Another thing please state if your event is annual or once- off because after the awards we will be combining a list of annual events happening around the province in their respective months linked to your social media pages for more information to people who have interest in attending them in the future.

  1. Radio Show of the Year

RadioShow - GenericThis award was introduced to encourage local community radio personalities to be motivated about the work that they do informing, educating and entertaining the Eastern Cape community. This year this category is divided into 2 categories:

Best Breakfast Show – This category is opened to presenters of radio shows that play in the morning between 6am until 12noon in local radio stations.

Best Afternoon Show – This category is opened to presenters of radio shows that play in the afternoon between 12noon until 6pm in local radio stations.

Requirements: Presents have to submit entry forms as well as snippet recording and times of their shows as well as logos of their radio station.

  1. Radio Personality of the Year

radio presenterThis award will be presented to the best radio personality in the Eastern Cape nominated by the public. Therefore, radio personalities need to encourage their listeners to vote for them as well as to attract new listeners.

Requirements: Each radio personality needs to submit an entry form as well as times of his/her shows together with voice over recordings or snippets of the show together with two images of themselves. Please note: Your submitted information will form part of your achieved information on BEATMagazineSA’s website under personalities and MC’s so make sure that you send us your best work.

  1. Best Comedian

comedyIn the Eastern Cape comedy is slightly growing and to make it culture people need to be familiar with local comedians. This category is created to celebrate those who participate in arts in the form of comedy. This form of art is growing in the province and now it needs to be commercialised in order to contribute to the who entertainment offering, so that the public can support it. This categories was previously taken by Tsepiso Nzayo (2014) and Zikhona Msuthu (2015). Can they defend it or we will have a new leader this year.

Requirements: Submit an entry forms accompanied by a profile as well as two images and links to your page or clips.

  1. Best Female Artist of the Year

female artistThis award will be presented to an active female solo artist within a period of twelve months, defined by a number of events attended throughout the year. Nominees will be selected based on their activity: shows, collaborations, interviews, promotions etc.

Requirements: The artist is required to submit an entry form together with posters of events he/she participated in from the previous year as well as an artist profile and two images. NOTE: Artists must be registered with SAMRO/RISA and be in possession of their own music to be submitted.   1. Best Male Artist of the Year

best male artistThis award will be presented to an active male solo artist within a period of twelve months, defined by a number of events attended throughout the year. Nominees will be selected based on their activity: shows, collaborations, interviews, promotions etc.

  1. Project of the Year (Album/EP/Mixtape)

project of the yearThis award will be presented to a music project that is deemed to be the best project within a period of a year. This will be evaluated based on rating score by both the public and the judges. This is a project that was released as an album, an EP or as a mixtape.

Requirements: The artist/group is required to submit an entry form together with posters of events he/she participated in from the previous year as well as an artist profile and the project cover art. NOTE: Artists must be registered with SAMRO/RISA and be in possession of their own music to be submitted. SAMRO/RISA is a pre-requisite because radio/television stations will not playlist unregistered music so that you can get royalties each time your music plays on a paying broadcaster.

  1. DJ of the Year

DJ OF THE YEARThis award will be presented to active club dj within a period of twelve months, defined by a number of events attended throughout the year. This simply means only active club dj’s are legible to be nominated in this category. This category is open to the public for nomination. This category was first awarded to Mobi Dixon (2014) ad DJ Rezler (2016) and this year it could be you.

Requirements: The artist is required to submit an entry form together with posters of events he/she participated in from the previous year as well as an artist profile and two images.

  1. Promoter of the Year

PromoterThis category is open to encourage to who organize or promote events to be successful as well those who push artists through different sessions or platforms. These events must be recorded within a period of the previous twelve months. We are encouraging all of those organisers who involve local talent in their respective events. Eastern Cape’s entertainment will grow more if promoters can respect and take local artists seriously to that the public can appreciate and support them.

Requirements: The promoter must submit an entry form accompanied by his profile as well posters of the events.  Please note, that your active involvement in the development of arts in the province can create more opportunities.

  1. Best Community Radio Station of the Year

radio stationThis is the biggest award, as it encourages and recognises local radio stations for their contribution in informing, educating and entertaining Eastern Cape homes. This is the only category that will be opened until the day of the event and close 30 minutes the event closes and the stations will win R2000 in cash courtesy of the awards. This awards was awarded to Izwilethemba (2014 ) and Kouga FM (2015) this year it could be your station or go back to the two previous winners.

Requirements: The station needs to submit an entry form together with the show times and station profile.

All the voted categories will be accompanied a cash prize accompanying the trophy. Note, winnings will be processed seven days after the awards.

  1. Special Awards:
  • I Am Eastern Cape Award (Honoree Award) – This award recognizes Eastern Cape born heroes and legends whose image aligns to the province. This personally is expected to carry the Eastern Cape to the country, as they will be brand ambassadors of the awards. Therefore, this award is to honor them for their success and contribution to the development of the Eastern Cape brand.
  • Best Dressed/Styled Person – Voted using social media (twitter and facebook) using the hashtag #BestDressed during the event
  • Most Engaged User – This award will be given to some who used the awards hashtag more than everyone else during the event.

This years hashtag for the awards is #BEATMagazineSAAwards2016
