Aphiwe Bukani is living proof that anything can be achieved. He matriculated from George Randell High School in East London, then move to the City of Johannesburg hoping to strike for better opportunities. Bukani started out as an extra and background artist in national soapies such as Generations, Isidingo and Muvhango. Then landed a cameo role in an autobiography movie based on Winnie Mandela alongside Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard. BEATMagazineSA Editor had a closet chat with Aphiwe Bukani, and he shares:

Who is Aphiwe Bukani and where is from? A social entrepreneur and motivational speaker striving to be the best he can be. Born and raised in Eastern Cape, East London.

What sparked the move to Johannesburg? Varsity and opportunities, opportunities, opportunities!!

How did you become a motivational speaker at your age? By being involved in public speaking programmes and activities during my High School days.

What principles that you use to guide your life? Discipline, humility and respect.

What is your best achievement so far? Working alongside Jennifer Hudson and Terrance Howard in the movie Winnie Mandela. Winning the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, 2011 under Transformation Africa.

Share the experience of working with Jennifer Hudson and Terrance Howard on the movie adaptation of Winnie Mandela’s life.

Exciting and unforgettable as it gave me an opportunity to not only works with these international stars but also engage with them on a personal level.

What is your next move for the Eastern Cape?  To start a student accommodation business.

What keeps you going all the time? My religion, family and the passion I have for my work.

What can you say to those who gave up on their lives because there are no jobs? Your success must not depend on employment but yourself. In the mist of impossibilities see the possibilities. Rest if you must but never give up.

 What does life mean to you? (Living or Surviving). Living.

What place would you like to visit in the Eastern Cape and why? Because of work and family I travel to the Eastern Cape often and I’ve visited most places in the Eastern Cape from rural to urban. So there are no places in there Eastern Cape that I would currently like to visit. Maybe another province like Mpumalanga, God’s Window and experience the beauty of nature.

What is favorite home cooked meal? Umphokoqo.

If not working what will you be doing? Spending time with family or traveling.

What defines your success a car or a house and why? A house, simply because there is more value to it.

Do you see value in education these days if yes why? Yes I do, education will always be the key to many doors.

Where does your strength come from? Religion and self motivation.

If, you will be given an opportunity to make a wish. What will you wish for? For God to continue guiding and directing.
